On 18th May 2011, Japanese premium automotive brand Lexus opened the second Lexus Hybrid Art exhibition in grand style showing the art of the future already today. For the second consecutive year Lexus, the world leader in full hybrid premium cars, initiated a sharp dialogue about the art of the future showcasing works from internationally acclaimed artists, scientists, programmers, composers and architects.

Today, already well into the second generation of Lexus Hybrids, the brand’s great achievement is to produce premium cars delivering outstanding performance without compromising in fuel efficiency and emissions. We believe that this is the ultimate expression of new form of luxury in the automotive industry. Similar to hybrid technology in automotive, hybrid art is the way to achieve new forms and expressions by combining different genres resulting in completely new shapes and giving advanced and innovative view on reality.

On very few occasions the link between a company and an event has been so strong. As initiators of the Lexus Hybrid Art exhibition concept Lexus extends its forward oriented vision and approach customary for the development of their cars into the field of the art of the future.

At the event Lexus showed the full Lexus Hybrid Drive range: including the full hybrid GS 450h, the LS 600h L, the RX 450h and in a special interactive installation, the brand new Lexus CT 200h. Thanks to use of the latest innovations and hybrid technologies Lexus engineers produce the cars of the future already today.

“The Future Today!” is the main concept which unites the exhibition and Lexus as a leading automotive brand connecting the art and the products developed by Lexus in a meaningful and strong way.

By combining the newest Lexus Hybrid car, 3D mapping and a control panel the audience was invited to interact with the art object. The Lexus CT 200h installation is the embodiment of Lexus Hybrid Art which underlines the close connection between the brand and the content of the exhibition.

The main exhibition hall housed ten top shelf installation such as the kinetic installation “Polycycle I” by British artist Balint Bolygo, the tangible environment “Hylozoic Series:STOA” by Canadian Philip Beesley, the mobile info – graphic “Visualizing Amsterdam SMS Messages” by young American Aaron Koblin and the 3D film “Land” by Ulf Langheinrich. “Spend some time with me forever” a high definition video from American artist Scott Pagano, interactive installation “Scattered Coordinates” from Taiwanese Yao Chung Han, Masato Tsutsui’s “Functional Organics” interactive installation impressively complemented works such as the video poetry “The View From There” from Japanese art group WOW and sound installation “For Maria Anechoic Room Version” by Japanese duo Keiichiro Shibuya and Evala.

The final and maybe most spectacular piece presented is the giant mazelike cocoon made by Croatian Austrian Numen / For Use. The installation called “Tape Moscow” is a site specific work in which guests can crawl, jump, sit and even sleep in an extra terrestrial environment. The installation “Tape Moscow” is made out of ordinary wrapping material and evolves every time again adapting to the new space, new surroundings and purpose.

Similar to the evolution of the TAPE installation, in each new Lexus hybrid car the electric components have been improved to spare the space and weight. This development makes the Lexus hybrid drive more advanced. The breakthrough, second generation LHD system featured in the new RX 450h, was launched in 2009.

The grand opening was attended by a multitude of VIP guests including: TV presenters Marianna Maximovskaya, Vasiliy Kuibar, Elena Ischeeva, Julia Govor, Alexandr Shatalov, Svetlana Konegen, artists Andrey Bartenev, Sasha Frolova, Nikas Safronov, Lavrentiy Bruni, Dmitriy Gaev-Orlov, Gosha Ostretsov, designers Masha Tsigal, Masha Kravtsova, Violetta Litvinova, Armen Yeritsyan, Vlad Lisovets, singer Lena Kaufman, restaurateur Gideon Weinbaum, actress Ekaterina Dobrysh, fashion expert Andrey Abolenkin, Comedy Club resident Victor Vasiliev, Director of Winzavod Art Centre Sophia Trotsenko, Art Moscow art director Christina Steinbrecher, gallerists Andrey Gertsev and Vladimir Frolov amongst many others who all had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful event showing the future today!
